Digital expert touts use of social computing by government
Paul Taylor, chief strategy officer for the Center for Digital Government, is bullish on the use of social computing tools to improve the provision of government services, but he says most units of government are in the very early stages with it. During a recent visit to Madison, he spoke to WTN about some creative public-sector uses of so-called Web 2.0 technology.

Bradley Foundation to fund up to $500K in UWM catalyst grants
For the second consecutive year, the Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation will fund up to $500,000 in new catalyst grants at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. The university's catalyst grant program, which has received support from the Bradley Foundation and from Rockwell Automation, provides seed funding for commercially promising research projects.

Gallup acquires Wisconsin online services company
Middleton's enetrix, Inc., a provider of online survey and e-commerce services to associations and societies nationwide, has been acquired along with Carlson-Dettmann Consulting by Gallup of Omaha, Neb. Gallup says it will retain all 21 affected employees and managers and perhaps add to both staffs. The Wisconsin companies will become part of Gallup Consulting.

Activist TomoTherapy shareholder nominates four to serve on board
In its latest bid to force TomoTherapy to consider strategic alternatives, Avalon Portfolio, LLC has nominated four new directors to serve on TomoTherapy's board. Avalon, which owns four percent of TomoTherapy stock, has demanded a change in business strategy for the struggling Madison company and says that new strategic perspectives are needed to generate more value for shareholders.
Early-stage investment tax credits the subject of Jan. 8 WIN panel
The Wisconsin Legislature will face many big decisions in 2009, and one of the most important will be whether to expand the state's investment tax credit program. The program, which is credited with raising the level of angel investments in early-stage technology businesses, will be the subject of a Jan. 8 luncheon meeting of the Wisconsin Innovation Network.
